I've been racking my mind for solutions as I try to keep everyone updated as cares and best practices evolve at our house. This has become especially difficult as we continue to lose coverage, in part because we're covering shifts ourselves and doing things our own way or leaving them for nurses to do on future shifts that are covered. We've also uncovered miscommunication that's happened in the past and doctor's orders are always changing.
So far, the best idea I've had for quick updates is to use a blog. I can write updates on my phone (like I'm writing this post now) instead of needing to worry about adding to a full manual online. We'll still continue to use our control journal for our nurses, but this can have more frequent updates and hopefully be easier to manage.
You'll notice a lack of names here. While as a mother, I'm not required to observe HIPAA, our nurses are. I'm hopeful that observing some of the constraints of HIPAA might make this format for updates more accessible to our nurses.
Blogs also have a search function and the ability to tag posts with keywords. I'm hopeful that may help as well.
